SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 36

Congratulating the Woodrow Wilson High School "Flying Eagle's"
boys' basketball team for winning the Class AAA state
basketball championship.
Whereas, The Woodrow Wilson High School boys' basketball
team finished the 1992-1993 season with a record of twenty-five
wins and three losses and participated in the Class AAA state
basketball tournament; and
Whereas, This is the second straight state championship for
Woodrow Wilson High School boys' basketball team, having won the
Class AAA championship during the 1991-1992 state tournament; and
Whereas, The Woodrow Wilson High School boys' basketball
team is led by David Barksdale, head coach; Butch Freeman and Bob
Bolen, assistant coaches; Shawn Persinger, Teddy Harris, Joe
Thompson, Tom Gwinn and Tony Jones, managers; and Bob Moseley,
athletic director; and
Whereas, The Woodrow Wilson High School boys' basketball
team has been ranked number one in the coaches poll by the
Associated Press sportswriters and was ranked twenty-third in the
nation by USA Today, a national newspaper; and
Whereas, The outstanding athletic ability of the team's
players, Steven Ball, Noel Brown, Ryan Culicerto, Shea Fleener,
Kenny Hale, Rob Lewis, Gene Nabors, Kelvin Pannell, AnthonyScruggs, Vernon Sweatte, Brian Wheeler, Anthony Wilson and Jude
Ziolkowski, has brought a sense of pride and accomplishment to
the students and faculty of Woodrow Wilson High School, the city
of Beckley and the county of Raleigh for the second consecutive
year; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby congratulates the Woodrow Wilson High
boys' basketball team for winning the Class AAA state basketball
championship for the second consecutive year; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate commends each of the
players for demonstrating that goals can be achieved through
dedication and determination and belief in team work; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to Woodrow Wilson High School's
head basketball coach, David Barksdale; principal of Woodrow
Wilson High School, Miller Hall; and the members of the team.
